Summary

Giant congenital pigmented hairy nevus is a rare dysembryoplasia that predominates in females. It is often symmetric and has a predilection for the mediodorsal area. Patients present with several large, smooth or papulonodulous areas, sometimes verrucous, with black spots and dense hair. Giant nevi are often associated with mucous membranes lesions and/or neuromeningeal melanosis (neurocutaneous melanoma). In most cases the nevus remains stable and benign, but because of possible malignant transformations, follow-up should be regular. In some cases excision may be advisable. * Author: C.
