Summary
Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease is a type of osteochondrosis affecting the attachment of the patellar tendon to the patella and characterised by tenderness and localized swelling of the patella. Prevalence is unknown. This disease occurs mostly in adolescents, especially in young male athletes practising sport. Bone fragmentation of the inferior portion of the patella may occur. It results from contusion or traction tendinitis of the proximal attachment of the patella tendon, followed by de novo calcification. The course of the disease is usually self-limited and benign.
